Process Walkthrough
The admission and visa journey involves several important stages, from selecting the right course through to receiving your visa decision.
Course & Institution Selection
We first assess your academic background, previous studies, work experience, English ability, career goals and preferred study area. Based on your profile, we help identify suitable courses and education providers.
Admission Application
The required academic and personal documents are submitted to the selected education provider. The provider may request additional documents or clarification during the assessment process.
Offer Letter
If the education provider approves your application, you may receive a Conditional or Unconditional Offer Letter, depending on whether all admission requirements have been met.
Confirmation of Enrolment
Once the provider's enrolment requirements have been satisfied and the required fees have been paid, the provider issues a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). The CoE is an important document for the Student Visa application.
Genuine Student Assessment
Student Visa applicants must satisfy the Genuine Student (GS) requirement. The assessment considers factors including your current circumstances, immigration history and genuine intention to study in Australia.
Student Visa Application
After the required documents and CoE are available, the Student Visa application can be lodged through ImmiAccount. You may need evidence relating to English, financial capacity, health insurance, health examinations, character and other requirements.
Visa Decision
The Department of Home Affairs assesses the application according to current immigration regulations and processing priorities. Students should lodge their application well before their intended course commencement date.
Basic Eligibility Criteria
To study in Australia and apply for a Student Visa, you generally need to satisfy the applicable admission and visa requirements.
Student Visa and education admission requirements are separate processes. Meeting a provider's admission requirements does not automatically guarantee a visa grant.
English Language Requirements
English requirements can apply at two different stages of the Australian study and visa process.
Education Provider Requirements
Universities, colleges and VET providers set their own English entry requirements. These can vary according to the course, qualification level and institution. There is therefore no single IELTS or PTE score that applies to every Australian course.
Student Visa Requirements
The Department of Home Affairs also has its own English evidence requirements for Student Visa applicants where applicable. Approved tests, minimum scores and exemptions can change, so current Department requirements should be checked before lodging the visa application.
Important: Fixed IELTS or PTE scores should not be presented as universal requirements for every Australian course. Provider admission requirements are course and institution specific.
Financial Capacity Requirements
Depending on your circumstances, you may be required to provide evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay in Australia.
Expenses That May Need To Be Covered
- Travel costs to and from Australia
- Living costs for you and accompanying family members
- Tuition fees for your course of study
- Schooling costs for accompanying school-aged dependants
Examples of Financial Evidence
- Bank deposits and official statements
- Evidence of eligible financial support from parents or spouse
- Government or institutional scholarships
- Approved educational loans from recognized financial institutions
Important Financial Evidence Notice: Financial evidence requirements depend on the individual application. Avoid treating a three-month fund-maintenance rule or a fixed list of acceptable financial products as a universal current Student Visa requirement.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
International students generally need Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for themselves and accompanying dependants for the entire required period of stay.
OSHC generally needs to cover the relevant period of stay and, in applicable circumstances, from at least one week before the course starts through the required visa duration.
Note: Certain country-based exemptions can apply (e.g. Belgian, Norwegian, and Swedish students under specific reciprocal insurance arrangements).
Genuine Student (GS) Requirement
The Genuine Student requirement is an essential component of every Australian Student Visa application.
What You Need to Demonstrate
Applicants need to demonstrate that they genuinely intend to enter and remain in Australia as a student and understand that studying is the primary purpose of the visa.
Your answers should be truthful, consistent, and well-substantiated by relevant supporting evidence.

- Family, economic, and community ties
- Reasons for choosing Australia and the specific provider
- Relevance of the study to your intended career trajectory
- Immigration history and previous visa compliance
Important: Future plans in Australia do not automatically prevent an applicant from satisfying the GS requirement, provided the applicant genuinely meets the applicable Student Visa criteria.
